Badung (ANTARA) –The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, wants the implementation of the International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) in 2023 to be held in Badung, Bali, to boost investments in green tourism both from foreign and domestic sources, emphasizing sustainable principles.

“Today, the International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) is being held for the first time, and we will focus on green tourism, sustainable tourism. This activity is also in line with Bali’s positioning as a cultural, high-quality, dignified, and sustainable tourism destination,” said Sandiaga.

He warmly welcomes the ITIF and hopes it will become an annual event as a manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to creating sustainable national tourism, which will contribute to and influence global tourism development.

This forum is one of Indonesia’s active contributions to the global development of sustainable tourism. This active role is expected to promote Indonesian tourism more widely to drive more significant benefits for the national economy.

For Indonesia, this meeting can support the target of creating new jobs in several priority destinations.

“We hope that this new era of tourism, in addition to being of higher quality and more sustainable, can also create a large number of jobs with a target of 4.4 million new jobs by 2024,” he said.

Sandi stated that there are 355 investors present, with 12 tourism projects showcased, with a target investment of 6 to 8 billion US dollars.

“We are presenting new destinations, in addition to Bali, as investment opportunities with a target investment of 6 to 8 billion US dollars by 2024,” said Sandi.

He emphasized that this is in line with the direction of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to boost the economy and create 4.4 million high-quality jobs by 2024.

The event, themed “Embracing Tourism Investment Opportunity: Green and Sustainable Investment,” aims to create a common understanding of green investment, especially in the tourism sector, sponsored by various parties, including Merusaka Nusa Dua Bali Hotel, Traveloka, Eiger, The Keranjang Bali, Kopi Kenangan, Hatten, and Aruna.

ITIF 2023 is conducted through strong collaborations with various parties such as KADIN and UNWTO, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and is supported by International UNDP, Bank Indonesia, and PT. Angkasa Pura.

During the event, ITIF brings together policymakers, representatives from the central and regional governments, investors, and project owners, with the hope that this forum will serve as a platform for discussions and connections among stakeholders regarding opportunities and challenges in implementing green investments to promote sustainable tourism development globally, especially in Indonesia.

The event also introduces investment opportunities in tourism areas/projects, aiming to accelerate investment and financial support in area development.
